About Us
The Department of Mathematics at Iğdır University Faculty of Science and Letters was established as a result of the proposal by the Rectorate of Iğdır University to open departments and main branches within the Faculty of Science and Letters. This proposal was approved under Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 as amended by Law No. 2880 at the Higher Education Executive Board meeting held on June 16, 2011.
With the decision of the Council of Higher Education dated June 6, 2018, it was deemed appropriate to establish the Master's Program in Mathematics (with thesis), the Non-Thesis Master's Program in Mathematics (Second Education), and the Doctorate Program in Mathematics under the Graduate School of Natural Sciences at Iğdır University.
Mathematics is a field of study based on axioms, internally consistent, free of contradictions, and built on logical inferences leading to absolute truths. Students who complete the 4-year undergraduate Mathematics program earn the title of "Mathematician" upon graduation. Our students, if meeting the necessary requirements, can apply for double major programs. Upon successful completion of the required courses, they can earn a second undergraduate degree in addition to their Mathematics degree. Depending on available quotas, students may also apply for a minor program in various fields, earning a certificate in the area they wish to specialize. After graduating from the Mathematics Department, our students can pursue Master's and Doctorate programs in their fields of interest.
Our department encourages and supports students to complete one or two semesters of their education at universities abroad or within the country through the Erasmus, Farabi, and Mevlana Student Exchange Programs. Additionally, international students from other universities can also study in our department through these exchange programs.
